Single- vs. double wall paper cups

Single-wall paper cups are mostly used to serve lukewarm/room temperature or cold drinks and are often used for cappuccino, soda and other soft and fizzy drinks. Double-wall paper cups have an extra layer of paper that makes it comfortable to carry hot beverages like black coffee and tea that are otherwise impossible to carry when served in a single wall cup. 

Matte or glossy surface?

Our biodegradable single wall paper cups are produced with a matte surface. The biodegradable double wall paper cups can be made with a matte or glossy surface. Each of the surfaces allows you to portray your brand in a very unique way.  If you are looking for a more natural and raw expression, then the matte surface is ideal. If you want to show your brand in high quality and stand out from your competitors, the glossy surface is the right choice for your personalized takeaway cups!

Please note that the paper we use for the outside of our double wall paper cups is slightly grey instead of pure white, since it is made of recycled paper.

When producing our custom printed paper cups, we use ‘offset-print’ as printing method in order to deliver the highest quality possible at both small and large quantities. Further to your advantage, we use CMYK-colours, which allows us to use a wide selection of colours but the best part is that, when using full-colour print, you do not have to count the colours in your design – you can use as many colours as you like and even completely free-of-charge!

Biodegradable, recyclable & plastic-free coating

At Limepack, we’re committed to offering the most sustainable products possible. Our biodegradable paper cups are the most environmentally friendly option available on the market and are a great choice for those looking to reduce their impact on the environment.

Our biodegradable paper cups are produced in biodegradable and recyclable materials only. We replace the usual layer of PE-plastic on the inside of the paper cup with a water-based coating, which is made by mixing chemicals with pulp from trees that then are put into a water fuse together to form a thin layer. When the water is dried off, the layer that is sticking to the pulp will then form a barrier that is able to contain liquids. The paper cups are therefore biodegradable and compostable. However, this does not mean that we encourage throwing the paper cups in nature – they should instead be recycled in the paper and cardboard recycling facilities. 

Our biodegradable paper cups are certified AA recyclable, which means they are fully recyclable and can be recycled at any standard recycling facility if sorted correctly. The paper cups are marked with the number ‘21’ to indicate that they belong with sorted paper and not paper waste. Since it can be hard to differentiate the regular, plastic-containing cups from the biodegradable cups, this helps waste disposal staff to properly handle the biodegradable cups and ensure that they are recycled correctly.

The clear advantage of the plastic-free paper cups is the low CO2-emission during the production in comparison to the production of ordinary paper cups. Furthermore, no oil is used during the production of the cups. So not only is it helping reduce plastic waste and single-use paper cups, which end up in landfills and not in recycling facilities, but coffee-, restaurant- and fast food chains can also save a lot on waste charges, as the containers are recyclable. 

Labelling of biodegradable paper cups

On the 3rd of July of 2021, the SUP-directive was enforced, which meant that all drinking cups containing plastic or materials that have the same effect as plastic, will need to be marked with a label that says “contains plastic”. Our BIO paper cups contain a very low amount of ink, which is comparable to the same amount of plastic as there is ink, but since the law is very unspecific regarding where the threshold for containing plastic is, we are not able to determine whether our plastic-free paper cups should be marked with this label or not. This is the reason why we put the label on the plastic-free paper cups, but if you do not wish to have it on your cups, we can produce them without the label but at your own risk.

Recyclable and plastic-free paper cups made easy

It should not be difficult to find sustainable and plastic-free paper cups. Therefore, we are only co-operating with manufacturers based in Europe. By using only manufacturers within the EU, we are able to deliver your BIO paper cups within just 4 weeks. You can order amounts from only 1.000 pcs. and due to the short transport route, less CO2 is emitted during transportation compared to cups being shipped all the way from China or an Eastern Country.
